Monday Made It!

First off, is anyone else having trouble getting ANYTHING done with the Olympics on? I have this fear that if I turn off my TV or even leave the room where the TV is I might miss something important (...Ryan Lochte swimming haha). I don't know how I am going to be able to get everything I need to get done this week with the Olympics on. Yikes!

Now, on to the linky. I absolutely LOVE Tara's Monday Made It and I have been so inspired by everyones creativity this summer. Today I am SUPER excited to show you my "made its"! =)

The first thing I am excited to show you guys is my revamped desk. I had a large, old, fake wood desk in my classroom and it just wasn't cutting it. I searched for the perfect teacher desk on Craigslist and found a perfect smaller desk under the search heading "old teacher desk"... perfect right?
I picked it up last week and it looked like this...

Cute... but plain and boring. Right?
With a couple of coats of blue and yellow paint, TONS of tape and several hours of taping, I got this...
...a fabulous, revamped teacher desk.
Some of you guys might think I'm crazy for messing up a perfectly cute desk, HAH...
but I definitely love the results. It ties in perfectly with my classroom. I have a yellow wall, and I recently just finished painting all of my bookshelves blue. Perfect right? =)

Next, I can't wait to show you my Monday (Dad) Made It! Hah!
I have NO storage or counters in my classroom, so my wonderful Dad volunteered to make me some pretty amazing cabinets this summer. He has been working so hard and they turned out great! We moved them into my classroom this weekend! Check them out! =)

(The top picture is the before. The bottom picture shows my fabulous new cabinets!)

Like always, I can't wait to see what all of you lovely ladies have made this week!
I can't believe there are only TWO more Mondays in my summer before teachers report back.
I have sooo much to do! Ahh, better get started! =)

Fabulous Find Friday!

Okay, so I feel like I need to start out this post by saying SORRY for the lack in "educational" posts this summer. I have been so busy creating and decorating that it hasn't left for much time for insightful posts. I am hoping the insightful posts will come with the new school year, but for now I will continue sharing with you guys my summer classroom projects. =)

Today I thought it would be fun to link up to "Fabulous Finds Friday" with Elizabeth. I found this FABULOUS find on Craigslist last week and just knew I had to get it. I know it's not your typical "Fabulous Find Friday" but I just had to share! =)

Check out my AMAZING new teacher desk. =)

You'll have to check back next week to see its new made over look. =)
I am pretty proud as to how it turned out.
Don't get me wrong, I love the old fashioned teacher desk look,
but wanted something bright and cherry to go along with my room.

LOVE reading all about everyone else's wonderful summer projects, trips, classroom decorating progress, and insightful educational posts (props to those of you posting those right now HAH)!

Have an AMAZING weekend.
This is the weekend my desk AND my brand spankin' new cabinets get moved into my classroom.
PUMPED! See you guys next week! =)

Why Teach?

Janaye at Tales of Frogs and Cupcakes is having such a fun linky party! We all have some sort of story as to why we got into teaching. She is giving us a chance to share our stories. I really don't have one specific reason as to why I became a teacher. I grew up playing school and never imagined doing anything else. Even though I don't have that one instance that made me decide I wanted to teach, I do have several reasons why I teach and because of those reasons, I don't ever see myself doing anything else.  I can't wait to read everyone else's "Why Teach?" stories! Go link up! =)

The purpose of life is not to be happy - but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all.
~Leo Rosten

The quote above by Leo Rosten has become my life quote. In my life I do not want to just be happy. I want to matter, to be useful, and most importantly I want to make a difference. Over the past several years, I have realized the impact I can have on so many lives each day as a teacher. I believe that God calls us each to do something special with our lives and I truly believe that he has called me to work with children.

Each day I only have so many hours with my students and my goal is to make every hour, every minute I have with them count. To one student, I might be the only person who tells them each day that I believe in him/her. To another student I might be the only person to tell them that I am proud of him/her. And to another student I might be the only adult they can rely on. Even though some people might see that as a burden, a job that is much to difficult for such little pay, but I see it as a challenge, an incredibly exciting opportunity.

Will I always know that I have made a difference in a child’s life? No, but as long as each night I know that I have done by best I will be happy. I love this quote by Edmund Burke, “Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.”

That little, tiny chance that I just might make a difference in someone's life is the reason that I want to be a teacher.

T-Minus 1 Month!

Today is the 1 month mark until kiddos return to school.
Teachers return four days earlier.

The fact that we are at t-minus 1 month until school starts is CRAZY.
I have SO much to do it's not even funny.
I wish I would have taken a picture of my classroom when I left this afternoon.
One word: CHAOS.

I am hoping to make leaps and bounds in my room next week.
There is just SO much stuff everywhere and I just don't know where to put it. Yikes!
My dad is in the process of making me some great cabinets (my room has no cabinets/counters),
so once those get put in, I will have so much storage! (EXCITED!)

Anyone else feel like they are running out of time to prepare? (ME!)
Or feel like this summer has completely flown by? (ME!)
Or getting anxious and excited to meet their new students? (ME!)

On another note... I NEED HELP!
Do you any of you fabulous teachers know where I can find a decently priced brighly colored rug?
I am open to many colors... Light Blue, Pink, Lime Green, etc.
I have been searching for weeks and can't find anything.
I need this rug for my classroom library. Last year I had a blue one that I found for 30 bucks.
I need something similar for this year but I am running out of ideas.
Have you seen one? Let me know!!

Thanks for letting me ramble tonight!  And PLEASE help me find a rug! =)

Hodgepodge!

Hello, Hello! THREE random things to cover in this post! =)

ONE:

Better late then never, I have the winner of Jules Howes's book, Catty Wompus.
The lucky winner just happens to be one of my favorite bloggers!
Congrats Jackie @ Third Grade's a Charm
I will be emailing you shortly. =)

TWO:

Even though everyone else is talking about it, I must take the time to talk about the AMAZING things I found in the target dollar spot yesterday. Wowza! I went crazy. They had all sorts of educational tools (especially for math) that I plan on using in my BUILD boxes this year. I also got some super cute Dr. Seuss themed pencils for back to school AND three books for my classroom library. I am headed to another Target today to see if I can pick up some other good finds. =)

Left to Right:
1) Oh The Places You'll Go Pencils
2) Quick Quizzes - These came by grade level and for math and reading.
I plan to use these for quick finishers during center time.
3) Wipe Clean Math Flash Cards
4) Monster Sandwich Bags - Saving these for Halloween treats!
5) Multiplication wipe clean practice books
6) Three patriotic books for my library
7) Math flash cards
8) Extra dice

THREE:
My school just sent all the teachers the book The Leader in Me by Stephen Covey to read during the rest of our summer break. We are doing a book study on it and will spend a day discussing, etc. during one of our professional development days during back to school. Have you guys read this book? Opinions?

Wow, random post today!
I am proud if you stuck with me! Hah!  =)
Hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday!

First things first... Don't forget to enter my fun giveaway!

Now for Monday Made It....
I am excited to link up with Tara again this week for Monday Made It! I saw so many AMAZING ideas last week and I can't wait to check out everyones creations for this week! =)

This week I attempted to make a burlap door hanger. I have seen several floating around pinterest and thought I would give it a try. It didn't turn out like the professionals on ETSY, but I think I am okay with the finished product. I plan on hanging this outside my classroom door.

(The polka dots don't look as pink in person.)

Well, that is the only crafting I was able to get done last week.
I am hoping to get something else fun made this week.

Don't forget to go link up with Tara
Can't wait to see what you all have made.

Have a happy Monday AND don't forget to enter my giveaway! =)
